- Entry Criteria
GCSE English and Maths grade A* – C/9 - 4, or equivalent qualification, are required. If you have suitable accounting experience this will be taken into consideration. If you do not have these qualifications, the College will assess your skills through a Skillbuilder assessment to help tutors make an informed decision about your suitability for the course. This course is for students aged 19 or over. If you are under 19 you will be better suited to an apprenticeship programme. You will need to register or renew with AAT directly as a student member. This is approximately £130 per annum.
- What will I study?
This qualification covers a range of skills and the relevant supporting knowledge in one mandatory unit - Bookkeeping Fundamentals. The qualification is assessed in one end-of qualification assessment.
Students completing this qualification will develop an understanding of the role of the bookkeeper, including the need to produce timely and accurate work and to follow ethical principles. Students will learn underpinning theory including how to identify assets, liabilities, income, expenses, capital profit or loss, and the differences between trading for cash and trading on credit. Students will also develop the skills to process customer and supplier transactions, to enter receipts and payments into the cash book and check amounts against the bank statement in preparation for bank reconciliation. Students will be introduced to the dual effect of transactions. This is a fundamental underpinning concept for double-entry bookkeeping
