Meet Wiktoria, a current Barnfield student who starred in our ‘Becoming You’ promotional campaign.
Wiktoria studies Level 3 Aeronautical Engineering. Impressed by the facilities and the opportunity to work with leading employers, Wiktoria knew that our Aeronautical course was the right pick for her. She has a huge passion for planes and wants to pursue a career in this constantly evolving industry.
Calling back to her first open day, Wiktoria felt that the teachers and college community was warm and welcoming. Discussing the transition from secondary school, Wiktoria said that she adapted well to college life.
In addition to the great facilities Barnfield offers, Wiktoria recognised the benefit of the college’s strong employer partnerships. So far, Wiktoria has gained experience with prominent employers in the industry such as Airbus, RAF Benson, EasyJet and London Luton Airport. Wiktoria’s ambition is to work in the RAF, specifically working on fighter jets – she said this will be her “dream”, her “life goal accomplished” if this became a reality.
Wiktoria also offered a fresh perspective on being a woman in Engineering, an industry that is typically male dominated. Wiktoria’s advice to other women wanting to pursue a career in Engineering is to not feel intimidated – she has felt supported by her classmates and believes they all share a common goal in aspiring to work in the Aeronautical industry. Furthermore, Wiktoria thanks her tutor for helping her become more confident in her abilities as she now believes she can tackle any task given to her.
If she could speak to someone choosing to study Aeronautical Engineering, Wiktoria’s advice is to not “be afraid to ask for help” and to “get any resources you can” – teachers are here to help you after all.
