Meet Lewis, a current Barnfield student who starred in our ‘Becoming You’ promotional campaign.
Lewis has spent three years studying at Barnfield so far, originally specialising in Barbering before moving over to Hairdressing. Over his time at Barnfield, Lewis has gone from strength to strength thanks to support from his teachers and student advisors.
At the start of his college journey, Lewis struggled with his confidence. Following guidance from his tutor, Lewis started visiting our Student Support Team where he bonded with his allocated student advisor. Throughout his time at Barnfield, Lewis has found comfort in his weekly chats with his advisor, helping his confidence to grow.
Lewis found another source of support from his tutors, who he mentioned initially picked up on his lack of confidence in lessons. Lewis credits his tutors for helping him develop his passion for Barbering and Hairdressing – he enjoys cutting, colouring, blow drying and perming. On top of learning new skills, Lewis loves interacting with his customers and the opportunity to build new relationships with people.
Lewis’ confidence in himself and his work output has grown immensely, which he now brings to his job working professionally in a salon. Whilst hoping to move up in the industry and make his mark, Lewis loves where he is currently working and expects to be there for years to come.
If he could go back to his first day at college, Lewis’ advice to himself would be: “Be yourself. And do what you can. Try your best and don’t give up.”
