Paramedic Science Student
Meet Charlotte, a former student on the Access to Higher Education - Healthcare Professions course.
After leaving school at sixteen with limited qualifications and starting a family, Charlotte decided to return to education with the goal of pursuing a university degree.
Upon a recommendation from a family member, Charlotte decided to apply for the Access to HE course. Encouraged by a family member, she applied for the Access to HE course to take the first step toward a career in healthcare.
Charlotte praises the course for equipping her with essential academic skills, including research and essay writing, after a sixteen year break from education. These skills laid a strong foundation for her university studies, where she is currently undertaking a degree in Paramedic Science.
As part of her university training, Charlotte now works in high-pressure environments—treating patients in medical emergencies and collaborating with fellow healthcare professionals. Her academic and practical experiences have given her both the confidence and competence needed in this demanding field.
Reflecting on her time at college, Charlotte shared: “The Access to HE course and the support I received from my tutors gave me the confidence to go to university. My experience at Barnfield College changed my life”.
Her advice to future students considering the Access to HE route: “Be prepared! It’s an intense, fast-paced course, but the rewards are well worth it—and the support you receive is amazing."
