Barnfield College was proud to host its first Hair Care Skills for Carers Workshop, marking the beginning of an important new initiative designed to support carers within our community. The session was particularly meaningful as we welcomed Gillian Fry, whose personal experience and advocacy first inspired the creation of this programme. Gillian attended with her husband and spoke openly about how practical, confidence‑building haircare skills can make a real difference to both carers and the individuals they support.
Her story highlighted the emotional and practical impact that simple, everyday techniques can have, helping carers feel more equipped, and helping those they care for feel more comfortable, confident and dignified. Seeing this in action within the salon has strengthened our commitment to ensuring this training continues to be accessible, supportive and empowering.
In partnership with Gillian, we are pleased to continue offering free, hands‑on workshops specifically designed for carers. Whether you’re supporting a loved one at home or working in a professional caring role, our experienced salon team will guide you through straightforward techniques that make haircare easier and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
These friendly, relaxed sessions take place in The Salon at Barnfield College, which is fully accessible and equipped for all who join us.
