Occupational Therapy Student
Meet Gemma, a former student on the Access to Higher Education – Healthcare Professions course.
While working as a Teaching Assistant, Gemma discovered a strong interest in the medical elements of her role. Motivated by a desire to pursue a career within the healthcare sector, she explored further study options and identified the Access to Higher Education – Healthcare Professions course at Barnfield College as the ideal next step.
Throughout her studies, Gemma particularly valued the opportunity to meet new people, broaden her understanding of the healthcare field, and develop key skills essential for a future career in the sector. She credits the support of her tutors and classmates with helping her strengthen her academic writing and build confidence in her abilities.
After successfully completing the course, Gemma progressed to the University of Bedfordshire, where she is now studying Occupational Therapy. Drawn to the profession for its focus on helping individuals live life to the fullest, she aspires to qualify as an Occupational Therapist and hopes to pursue a master’s degree in the future.
Reflecting on her experience at Barnfield College, Gemma shared: “If you get a buzz out of supporting others and helping people reach their goals and full potential, then this could be the right path for you. Barnfield College is a great place to further your knowledge if you’re an adult returning to education. Hard work pays off—stay focused and ask for support when you need it.”
