Sheila Abraham, founder of the Freelance Hairdressing Association (FHA), came to deliver an industry masterclass to our hairdressing students. Sheila has been in the industry for many years and being the founder of the FHA, she had invaluable experience and insight to share with the group.
Sheila spoke about how she came up with the idea for the FHA, Freelance Hairdressing did not have a support organisation like those in salons. FHA created a community to provide support to freelance hairdressers. This included: training, insurance and guidance. Members are not only supported by the FHA team but also by others in the network.
The FHA hold 3 annual events which provide their members a great mix of education and opportunities for attendees to showcase their work and grow their professional network.
Sheila provided insight on how to run a successful freelance business highlighting factors that must be considered. This talk was a great way for many of our students to ask questions about freelance hairdressing, learn the key skills required to start and run a freelance business, whilst showing our students the opportunities available to them for the future.
