A group of former students who studied on our Skills For Life programmes are now thriving in paid roles at Aelia Duty Free at London Luton Airport, having successfully moved into employment.

After completing Supported Internships in a range of placements, they’ve moved into customer facing roles within the busy airport environment. For many, this marks a big milestone, gaining real workplace experience, building confidence, and becoming more independent day by day.

Working at Aelia Duty Free means no days are the same. They regularly interact with travellers from all over the world, giving them the chance to develop their communication skills and grow in confidence in a fast-paced environment.

The Supported Internship programme played an important role in helping them get there. By combining hands on work placements with time at college, they were able to build practical skills. The programme focuses on preparing students for life after college, with a clear aim of helping them move into paid employment.

Seeing these former students now in work is a real testament to their hard work and determination. It also highlights the difference the right support and opportunities can make, opening doors and helping young people take that next step with confidence.
