A year since the launch of Luton’s Employment and Skills strategy to help improve people’s job prospects and help grow local businesses, real progress is being made across our town.

Over the last 12 months, partners across Luton have supported the town's economic recovery by helping deliver on the Employment and Skills Strategy, which was developed following engagement with businesses, education providers, and community groups. It forms a cornerstone of the Luton vision to create a healthy, fair and sustainable town, where everyone can thrive and no-one has to live in poverty by 2040.

As Chair of the Employment and Skills Partnership Board, I have seen first-hand how our partners have come together to help make Luton a jobs and skills friendly town that provides opportunities for local people.

“At Barnfield College, our students are benefiting from the £30m investment that delivered a state-of-the-art new campus. Students now have access to industry standard facilities to develop their skills, and we’re working with businesses to ensure that our students have all the skills required to enter the local jobs market. We’re excited for the next stage of investment at the college, with Phase Two developments starting soon, we’ll be able to continue delivering teaching to the highest standards across a wider range of in-demand sectors”.

Additional funding has been secured to deliver more skills programmes to help people back into work as well as to help people improve their prospects in their current employment.

At Barnfield College our doors are open to employers of all sizes and across all industries, we recognise that in order to play our part in recognising Luton’s 2040 vision, we must continue to collaborate with employers to ensure that our curriculum is aligned to the most in-demand skills.
