We want you to be involved in your child’s education and we always want feedback. You can access the online Parent Portal, contact us at any time on the Parent and Carers Hotline and you’ll hear about surveys and engagement evenings throughout the year.
At Barnfield College, we want you to be confident your son or daughter’s is making the most of their education. There is no doubt your support and encouragement will help them to achieve their potential and be successful.
With that in mind, we’ve made it easy for you to log into Parent Portal, which you can use to view your son/daughter’s attendance, punctuality and timetable. Throughout the term you will also be able to view additional information regarding their progress.

How to log on to Parent Portal
- Open barnfield.ac.uk
- On the footer, select ‘Parent Portal’
- Enter username – student’s College ID followed by a ‘P’
- Enter password – student’s date of birth in the format DDMMYY
E.g. 22 April 1982: 220482
Course Introduction Meeting
You might have heard about a Course Introduction Meeting for your son or daughter as part of their application to Barnfield College, simply put this is a chance for you to come and find out all about life at college and hear directly from our tutors.
What happens at the meeting?
We like all students to meet our tutors and their peers, so after a presentation that introduces the course, students get the chance to sit down with tutors and go into a bit more detail.
How to get invited to a Course Introduction Meeting?
Simple – just apply online and we’ll be in touch.
Do I need to prepare anything?
In most cases, no. However, if a student is applying for a creative subject, such as performance or music, we’d love to see examples of their talent in our mini-workshops at the meeting!
I might need support at College, can I find out more?
Absolutely! If students need support, just let us know when booking a meeting and we’ll make sure our support staff are on hand.
Can I bring someone with me?
Students are more than welcome to bring a family member or friend or two. Just let us know when booking a place.
I’d like to find out about more than one course, can I do that?
Of course. Come and find out about the courses of interest, our admissions experts will be available to offer extra guidance.
Are Course Introduction Meetings compulsory?
Yes. We like to meet our students before they enrol so that we can make sure they have found the perfect course for them.
Attendance and Absence
To help keep you better informed we send out text messages and emails with updates regarding attendance. The parents/carers of students under the age of 18 receive notifications regarding absence from the first lesson of the college day and a weekly attendance summary.
How to notify us of an absence
If your son/daughter is unable to attend college due to illness or unforeseen circumstances then please contact our attendance team directly.

Your child and the Internet & Social Media
As well as keeping them safe physically and emotionally within the College, we are keen to ensure your child is also safe online. We have obtained the below useful information leaflets from the NSPCC and O2 designed to help parents/guardians/carers understand the Internet and Social Media.
