GETTING TO COLLEGE

It is useful to have someone attend with you – a parent, guardian, family or friend as there will be a lot of information to take in and this will give you someone you can discuss your visit with when deciding if the college is right for you.

Take a look at the course options here on our website beforehand to check out what you are interested in, this will help you with who to talk to on the day. If you are unsure what you would like to study speak to one of our expert career advisors on the day they are on hand to help you discover a course to match your future ambitions.

BROWSE OUR COURSES

When you are at an Open Day it is important to make the most of the day and have questions ready to ask staff and students, see below our list of suggested questions for:

Staff:

1. What qualifications will I need for this course?
2. What does the course cover?
3. What assessment methods are used?
4. What are the facilities like?
5. What have previous students gone on to do for work/university after finishing this course?
6. Will there be work experience opportunities available?
7. What careers guidance support is available?
8. What student support is available?
9. What financial support is available?
10. How do I apply?
11. What is the application process?
12. Do I have to attend an interview to get on the course?
13. Is it worth applying for more than one course?

Students:

1. How have you found the course so far?
2. What is the teaching like?
3. How are the facilities?
4. What is the support like?
5. What's college life like?
6. Why should I choose Barnfield College?

Make sure you take some notes when you are there, take photos too – this will help you reflect when choosing the best option for you.

There will be students there to show you around, it will be useful to ask them about their experience at the college too, the chance to talk with students is one of the best ways to learn about the strength of the teaching and whether they are enjoying it.

No, you’re welcome to arrive and leave whenever suits you - there’s no need to stay for the full event.

Our Open Days tend to be busiest during the first hour (9:30–10:30am), with the final hour (11:30am–12:30pm) usually being quieter.

If you prefer a quieter visit with less crowds, we recommend coming later in the day.

No. Everyone is welcome to visit our Open Day and explore the wide range of course options that we have available – including our full-time 16-19 provision, part-time courses for adults and higher education.

It is common for Year 10 students to visit our Open Days as they think ahead to their post-GCSE options. However, whilst Year 10s are more than welcome to visit our campus and explore what we offer, they will not be able to apply to study with us until the following academic year.
