This course will expand your an understanding of the principles of the travel and tourism industry and allow you to explore the various avenues of work within this industry.

This course will also allow you to gain transferable skills that can be applied to the workplace or further study.

  • Entry Criteria

    3 GCSEs (A*-D/9-3), including English or maths, or successful completion of a relevant Level 1 programme.

  • What will I study?

    Develop your knowledge of the travel and tourism industry through key subject areas, such as:

    • The UK travel and tourism industry - understand the UK travel and tourism sector and its importance to the UK.
    • UK Coastal Tourism – gain an understanding of the features of UK coastal locations and facilities
    • Airport & Airlines - gain an understanding of the many different services airports offer, land side and air side, including cabin crew.
    • Customer service - investigate travel and tourism customer service and explore the needs and expectations of different types of customers in the travel and tourism sector.
    • Tourism in a popular UK region – learn about the features of a UK region and its tourism facilities and plan a visit to a UK region.
    • Understanding Specialist Tourism - Investigate the appeal and types of specialist tourism destinations.
    • Marketing in travel and tourism - gain an understanding of the principles of marketing and the skills needed to conduct market research and to develop a marketing plan for an aviation organisation.

    While completing this qualification, students will develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for in employees. These range from familiar ‘key skills’ such as team working, independent learning and problem solving, to more tricky-to-measure skills such as:

    • an appreciation for appropriate behaviour and dress
    • appropriate interpersonal skills
    • communicating with professional colleagues/peers and/or hierarchical seniors
    • supporting other aspiring employees
    • personal manners and deportment
    • understanding
  • Future Prospects

    Successful students can progress on to career paths including travel agents, tour operators, hotel receptionists or airline customer services.

    Progression at College will enable students to being studying our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel, Tourism and Aviation. This course will see you further enhance your knowledge and skills and prepare for next steps at work or progression to university.
