- Entry Criteria
4 GCSEs (9-2) including English Language.
Students who do not meet the entry criteria for the Level 1 Diploma (4 GCSEs at grades 9–2, including English Language) can be offered an alternative smaller Level 1 qualification in Electrical Installation.
This alternative programme is designed for students who have not yet achieved 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above but wish to develop their skills and knowledge within their chosen pathway. The qualification, delivered over one year, provides a supportive introduction to the subject and acts as a stepping stone towards progression onto the full Level 1 Diploma.
- What will I study?
This course provides a practical introduction to electrical installation, focusing on the skills and knowledge needed to work safely and effectively in domestic settings. You will study in our specialist electrical workshops in our Construction & Engineering Centre, learning from experienced industry professionals who will support you throughout your journey.
The programme combines hands-on practical training with classroom-based theory, helping you develop the skills, confidence and understanding required for further study and a future career in the electrical industry.
You will complete a range of practical projects designed to reflect real-world working environments, while building your knowledge of industry standards, safe working practices and electrical principles. Your progress will be assessed through practical assignments and online multiple-choice tests.

Fundamental safe working practices
Sustainability and environmental awareness in domestic dwellings
Site preparation and working safely within the construction industry
Electrical installation wiring and terminations
Fabrication techniques for electrical installation

Alongside developing your technical skills, you will also be expected to fully engage with your English and maths studies where required. These essential qualifications support progression to higher-level courses, apprenticeships and employment, and are highly valued by employers across the construction and building services industries. Strong English and maths skills will help you succeed both during your studies and throughout your future career.
- Future Prospects
Take your skills up a notch and progress to the Level 2 in Electrical Installation, alternatively you may be ready to start an apprenticeship and earn while you learn.
As well as completing the Level 1 Diploma, students will also require English and Maths at an appropriate level to access the Level 2 Diploma. Students who do not have the required English and Maths grades will be supported to discuss their career options and identify suitable study pathways.
