At some point we all need the services of a plumber. Take your first steps towards a career in a constantly evolving industry with a huge demand for qualified engineers. This course will help you to develop both your theory and practical skills. This course is suitable for beginners who want to get into Plumbing industry. Along with your studies you will also have the opportunity to gain some valuable Plumbing work experience.

  • Entry Criteria

    4 GCSEs (9-2) including English Language.

    Students who do not meet the entry criteria for the Level 1 Diploma (4 GCSEs at grades 9–2, including English Language) can be offered an alternative smaller Level 1 qualification in Plumbing.

    This alternative programme is designed for students who have not yet achieved 4 GCSEs at grade 2 or above but wish to develop their skills and knowledge within their chosen pathway. The qualification, delivered over one year, provides a supportive introduction to the subject and acts as a stepping stone towards progression onto the full Level 1 Diploma.

  • What will I study?

    The Level 1 Diploma is an entry-level qualification, designed to teach you the essential skills at an approachable level of study.

    You will spend time in workshops and the classroom, combining practical learning with theory to develop your skills.

    Modules include:

    • Installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems
    • Above ground drainage
    • Pipework (copper, plastic, low carbon steel)
    • Plumbing science
    • Structure of the construction industry
    • Site preparation in the construction industry
    • Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings

    Alongside developing your technical skills, you will be expected to fully engage with your English and maths studies where required. These qualifications are essential for progression onto higher-level courses, apprenticeships and employment, and are highly valued by employers across the industry. Developing strong English and maths skills will help you succeed both during your studies and throughout your future career.

  • Future Prospects

    This qualification will prepare you for further study at Level 2 or alternative specialism at Level 1. You can also enter employment or a foundation apprenticeship.
