Meet Mohand, one of our dedicated students currently working towards his goal of becoming a Chemistry and English teacher.
Mohand chose to study at Barnfield College to strengthen his understanding of teaching and learning while gaining insight into the further education sector. He wanted a course that would explore the theories behind effective teaching and provide a clear view of how science is delivered in an FE context, as well as in other educational settings.
As he progressed through the course, Mohand particularly enjoyed engaging with educational theory and reflecting on how it can be applied in real classroom situations. He values the professional discussions and exchanges he has with his peers, teacher trainers and mentor, which have broadened his perspective and supported his development.
During his studies, Mohand has developed strong classroom management skills and learned how to adapt teaching approaches to suit the college environment, building an essential foundation for a career in education.
Mohand remains focused on preparing for the responsibilities of teaching, including delivering engaging lessons, monitoring student progress, and supporting learners to achieve their potential.
He describes his Barnfield College experience as “inspiring, supportive and full of opportunities to grow as a teacher.” His advice to students considering the course is to stay motivated, follow your passion and take every opportunity to learn and practise what the course offers.
For those interested in pursuing a teaching career in a post-16 education setting, he encourages resilience, continuous learning and gaining practical experience wherever possible.
