Ryebridge Construction are helping us to meet the skills agenda for Luton.
Our Civil Engineering students were given the chance by Ryebridge Construction to gain real experience on a working site at London Luton Airport. Ryebridge Construction are currently working on a project with the airport to build new parking spots for the airplanes.
Our students were invited on site for two-day on-the-job training to learn all about how a working site operates and what the role of a civil engineer is. Along with meeting the engineers, labourers and site operatives to understand the importance of every different role.
Our approach to on-the-job training is designed to deliver real benefits to the businesses working with us, along with developing the knowledge, skills and confidence of our students.
Overall, the students enjoyed work experience and found it very useful towards their career progression.
"During my time at Ryebridge, I've learnt a lot of skills. I have learnt a lot of what I saw today in college but it was good to have the opportunity to physically see this on a site. It was great that I could use the skills I learnt at college into practice on a site."
Taha Akram, Barnfield student studying Level 3 Civil Engineering
"I have learnt a lot in these two days. At college you learn about concrete but coming onto a site, you get to see it and put it in practice. My time here has really helped my problem solving skills, as I now know to quickly adapt and deal with set backs in a real life situation."
Devansh Kumar Sharma, Barnfield student studying Level 3 Civil Engineering
