Our Level 2 and 3 Public Services students recently took part in an exciting trip to Willen Lake, where they spent the day engaging in a range of outdoor activities including high ropes, raft building, and kayaking.
The visit supported their current unit of study, which focuses on the benefits of outdoor adventurous activities. Throughout the day, students were given a full safety briefing and gained valuable insights into the importance of following procedures—an essential aspect of any public service role.
Beyond the physical challenge, the activities helped students strengthen key skills such as communication, teamwork, balance, and coordination. Navigating the kayaks and building rafts provided hands-on opportunities to work collaboratively and develop confidence in unfamiliar settings.
Public Services tutor Samuel Lake said: "Confidence and coordination are both key skills the students were able to develop during the day. It was extremely beneficial for the students to replicate the skills and scenarios they could face in different public service roles, while also building team cohesion."
