Meet Tayshauna, an Engineering alumni who recently started a degree apprenticeship with Pell Frischmann

Tayshauna studied Harrison JonesCivil Engineering at Barnfield College, she chose this course out of curiosity as she wasn't sure what she wanted to do after her GCSEs. Prior to coming to Barnfield, she had no knowledge of the subject and decided to chose to study Civil Engineering to challenge herself.

She quickly realised she had made the right choice and fell in love with the subject. She really enjoyed the classroom dynamic, often working as a wholesome unit and ensuring no one was left behind. This style of learning helped Tayshauna develop her communication and social skills, two important skills to have in the Engineering industry.

The course helped Tayshauna prepare for working in many ways, she said the tutors always went the extra mile to ensure there were resources available.

Tayshauna has started her Degree Apprenticeship at Pell Frischmann, she's excited to use what she's learnt at the college in the world of work.

Harrison advice to those on a similar journey is: “I would say push past the doubts in your mind and just go for it. I think that this industry is meant for change makers and if you feel like this is your calling, you should definitely sign up for it. In terms of studying at college to get into this industry, I can confidently say that Barnfield is the best place to do it. I am onto the next step in my career and it is all thanks to the unwavering support from my tutors and the rest of the staff. Also to the potential female students - do not allow the negativity from your surroundings to coerce you into ‘a more feminine course’. I am proof that we are more than able to strive in this industry and I challenge you to push past societal expectations and sign up for this course”.
