Barnfield College Alumni, Ahmed Khawer, was recently awarded the ‘Lord Mayor of London Scholarship for Academic Excellence 2023’. This amounts to a 50% reduction in the fee for his first year at City, University of London, where he is currently studying a Law Degree.
The scholarship is awarded based on high academic achievements prior to starting the course, as well as a well-written personal statement. Among only thirty students achieving the scholarship across all courses at the university, Ahmed explained he ‘felt a real sense of accomplishment’.
Achieving the scholarship has helped boost Ahmed’s confidence, encouraging him to apply for further opportunities in the future, while providing reassurance that he has what it takes to succeed during and after university. Ahmed expressed his gratitude to Safia Butt, Careers and Progression Coordinator at Barnfield College, for the support throughout the university application process and while writing his personal statement.
Ahmed is currently enjoying his time at university, balancing his time across multiple assignments, while also applying to numerous opportunities. He describes the time management techniques and analytical skills he acquired during his time at college, as beneficial in allowing him to manage his time and writing academically. Ahmed explains ‘I am certain that my time at Barnfield College has prepared me for the competitive, yet enjoyable law degree and profession’.
Nadia Batool, Business Lecturer at Barnfield College, said: 'Ahmed was a quick learner and was very organised throughout his time at Barnfield College. As a personal tutor to him, I am very proud to have taught him, and can say he has always been a great role model'.
Barnfield College offers a variety of business courses.
