This course aims to prepare students for life in the workplace, designed to develop core skills that will support them to locate, apply for and thrive in a job or volunteering opportunity.
We offer Work Skills Pathways at Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2 and Entry Level 3.
- Entry Criteria
Entry Level 1
This course is designed for school leavers working at Entry 1. Those working at pre-entry within stages 8-10 on the achievement continuum may also be able to access this course. Students may be able to work at Entry 2 in some areas, but have barriers to learning e.g. self-regulation, self-help skills, engagement.Students are likely to require a high ratio of support to access both learning and the college environment. Students typically arrive by taxi and require ALL (support at arrival, lunch and leave), they may require a total communication approach.Students with an Educational Health and Care Plan will require a review of their plan to ensure that the college can meet their specific needs and provide a suitable environment for learning.
Entry Level 2
Students may be able to work at Entry 3 in some areas but will have other barriers to learning e.g. anxiety, social interactional difficulties, confidence or low self-esteem. Students will be able to access learning with some independence and be equipped to access the college environment with some independence. Students should be able to travel independently and will be unsupervised at breaks and lunch time, with access to leave the campus to visit the town centre. Students with an Educational Health and Care Plan will require a review of their plan to ensure that the college can meet their specific needs and provide a suitable environment for learning.
Entry Level 3
Students may be able to work at Level 1 in some areas but will have other barriers to learning e.g. anxiety, social interactional difficulties, confidence or low self-esteem. Students will be able to access learning with some independence and be equipped to access the college environment with some independence. Students should be able to travel independently and will be unsupervised at breaks and lunch time, with access to leave the campus to visit the town centre. - What will I study?
Students will engage in a range of activities to develop the life and work skills that will support them in their future as young adults. Sessions include:
- Work skills – identify and develop key skills to access and succeed in the workplace
- Personal and social development – target areas for improvement with personal and social skills by participating in activities designed to enhance these skills
- English and maths – develop these core skills required for work and everyday life
- Project rotation – undertake various projects individually and in teams to develop work skills
Students will take Functional Skills exams, unless assessments indicate that exemption is appropriate.
