Welcome to the next level. Introducing the T Level in Health: Supporting the Mental Health Team, the new 2-year qualification designed to give you a head start towards a fulfilling career in Health and Social Care.
Support mental wellbeing in your community. This T Level focuses on working with mental health professionals to provide care and support for individuals with mental health needs.
Designed with leading employers you’ll develop the core knowledge and skills needed for entry into one of the most meaningful and in-demand professions. All backed up with a minimum of 315 hours working with an employer on an Industry Placement – you’ll gain first-hand experience of working in healthcare.
Equivalent to 3 A Levels with this qualification will have you set for employment, university or a higher-level apprenticeship.

- What will I study?
Core Content
Within the core content of this course you will develop a general understanding of health and science industry, including:
- Working within the health and science sector
- Health, safety and environmental regulations
- Managing information and data
- Principles of good scientific and clinical practice
- Core science concepts including the structure of cells, tissues and large molecules, genetics, microbiology and immunology
They will also learn about topics specific to health, including:
- Understanding the healthcare sector
- Providing person-centred care
- Supporting health and wellbeing
- Further knowledge of both human anatomy and physiology and of diseases and disorders
- Infection prevention and control
Occupational Specialism Content
In addition to the core content, you will also undertake the occupational specialism content for Supporting the Mental Health Team, including:
- Supporting therapeutic activities
- Monitoring wellbeing
- Understanding the main types of mental health conditions
- Understanding of treatment options for mental health conditions
- Working with families and carers
Industry Placement
You will also undertake 315 hours working with an employer on an Industry Placement. You’ll spend 80% of your time learning in our industry-standard facilities, and 20% gaining valuable experience on an industry placement.

This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the Health and Science industry. Upon completion you will be prepared to progress into the industry through employment or as an Apprentice in roles such as:
You can also use this T Level to progress to university with a degree in areas such as Mental Health Nursing, Psychology, Counselling.
Students should always check the entry requirements for each degree programme with the relevant higher education provider, as some degrees require specific combinations of qualifications or other industry accreditations as part of their entry requirements.
- What is a T Level?
T Levels are a 2-year qualification that is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Study a T Level and you will undertake an Industry Placement, with a minimum of 315 hours, on a course that is 80% classroom and 20% work.
You’ll enrol on a Level 3 study programme, taking part in exams and externally marked assessments. T Levels are graded at Pass, Merit, Distinction or Distinction and you will be awarded UCAS points upon completion, the maximum you can achieve is the equivalent of 3 A* at A Level.
Studying a T Level will allow you to meet the needs of the industry and prepare you for entry into skilled employment, higher level apprenticeships or Higher Education at university.
- How is a T Level structured?
T Levels are technical qualifications involving an industry placement. You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% in the workplace.
You are required to have achieved GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above or Functional Skills Level 2 to complete a T Level.
Additional occupation-specific mandatory requirements are included within your T Level. You are required to enter into employment or commence placement as part of your T Level giving you real working experience.
