If you have a passion for food and wish to pursue a career in the hospitality industry then this course is a great place to start. You will learn the practical skills you’ll need for success in the kitchen or in the restaurant. At the start of the course we will teach you how to safely use professional equipment (including chefs knifes) correctly, how to work in a real life working restaurant serving the members of the public.

By the end of the year, you will be comfortably working in the kitchen and the training restaurant.

  • Entry Criteria

    To enrol on a Level 1 Diploma, applicants should demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and a commitment to developing the fundamental skills required for their chosen area of study. Typically, applicants will have:

    • Studied a GCSE programme or be able to demonstrate that they are working at or towards Level 1.

    Applicants without formal qualifications may be invited to complete an initial assessment in English and maths to determine the most suitable level of study.

    • Deep and shallow frying
    • Stewing and braising
    • Preparing cold food products and regeneration
    • Preparing hot and cold beverages
    • Mixing and serving Alcoholic drinks
    • Event and function management
    • Investigating the hospitality and catering industry
    • Healthier foods and special diets

  • Future Prospects

    Progress to the Level 2 either by the Culinary Skills or the Professional Chefs routes. Alternatively, you may wish to seek employment as a junior Chef or front of house staff, waiting staff or bar staff.
