This course will help you gain the basic knowledge and skills to begin a career in the Brickwork trade. Your time will be split equally between practical modules in the workshop, and studying the theory behind brickwork.

  • Entry Criteria

    To enrol on a Level 1 Diploma, applicants should demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and a commitment to developing the fundamental skills required for their chosen area of study. Typically, applicants will have:

    • Studied a GCSE programme or be able to demonstrate that they are working at or towards Level 1.

    Applicants without formal qualifications may be invited to complete an initial assessment in English and maths to determine the most suitable level of study.

  • What will I study?

    You will spend approximately 50 per cent of your time in the workshop building brick and block walls to a variety of designs, which will help build the necessary skills to complete the synoptic tests towards the end of the course. The other 50 per cent will be spent learning the theory behind brickwork and the construction industry in general.

    This course is an ideal way to get onto a more advanced qualification or apprenticeship leading to a career in construction - as a bricklayer, or maintenance operative, or variety of other roles within the industry.
