- Entry Criteria
You do not require any formal qualifications for this course.
You will be required to attend an assessment session, which includes an interview and diagnostic assessment, to assess your current level and offer you a place on the most suitable level.
If you are not suited for GCSE maths you may be offered a place on our Functional Skills maths course. This course is a great stepping stone and provides an opportunity to progress to GCSE maths at a later date.
Please note: This course is for adults ages 19 and over, who do not have an A*-C (9-4) grade in GCSE maths, and would like to gain a GCSE qualification.
- What will I study?
The GCSE maths course will teach from the Edexcel syllabus. There are two tiers for this qualification. Higher Mathematics covers grades 4-9, whilst Foundation covers grades 1-5.
The course will equip you with the skills to:
- develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts
- acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems
- reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions
- comprehend, interpret and communicate mathematical information in a variety of forms appropriate to the information and context
You will study topics such as:
- Fractions, decimals and percentages
- Algebra
- Graphs
- Ratio, Proportion and Rates of change
- Geometry and Measures
- Statistics and Probability
You will be required to sit three exams at the end of the academic year, each exam paper will be 1 hour and 30 minutes long.
- Future Prospects
A GCSE maths qualification is necessary for individuals wanting to improve their educational and/or career prospects. GCSE maths at grade 4/C or above is now a standard requirement for most jobs and further/higher education courses.
