Trinity Hutley, a former student at Barnfield College has won the Institute of the Motor Industry Awards 2022 for Full-Time Student Of The Year 2022 – sponsored by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
Trinity was first shortlisted by a panel consisting of Dr Esther Hills, Central Engineering Director for Aggreko, Hayley Pells FIMI, Director at Avia Sports Cars, Professor Jim Saker FIMI, President of the IMI and Director of the Centre for Automotive Management and finally Steve Nash, CEO of the Institute of the Motor Industry.
Trinity was overjoyed with the result, saying: “Hard work pays off and it pays off in full! It’s what I say to my students. I spent 4 years trying to get to exactly where I am now. And if I can do it anyone can!”
Marcel Fernandes, Head of School Construction and Engineering said: “What a great evening. We are all so proud of Trinity, winning not only the Institute of the Motor Industry Full Time Student of the year Award, but also for receiving the Fellowship of the Motor Industry (FMI) Bursary. The bursary is recognition of an individual’s dedication and focus and designed to support further training and development opportunities.”
Trinity started at College on an Entry 3 Diploma for the Introduction to Motor Vehicle Industry and Technologies, progressing on through the levels to finish her studies with a Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance.
Trinity reflected on the decision to study Motor Vehicle: “Halfway through Year 11, I had no plans or no destination. All I knew was I didn’t want to sit behind a desk forever. I liked to see how things worked, I liked fixing things and didn’t want to do something I already knew how to do, so I went to an open day at Barnfield, wandered around the workshops, and nothing captured me – until I walked into the motor vehicle department. My eyes lit up and I just knew that I had to be a mechanic, something told me it’s where I belong!
Anthony Howard, Construction and Engineering Curriculum Coordinator at Barnfield said “Trinity received the student of the year award for her hard work and team ethos within her classes. Trinity assisted her peers in sessions and became a role model for the other students, often staying late to assist others and to build her own knowledge.”
Congratulations to Trinity for this wonderful achievement!
