Painting pandemonium as Big Trunk Trail prep gets underway

on March 31, 2021

Local artist Jude Chapman is bringing Barnfield College’s Big Trunk Trail elephant to life, after her design was picked by principal Cath Gunn.

The ‘Big Trunk Trail’ is a celebration of Luton Town, where businesses and organisations alike can sponsor an elephant and raise money for Keech Hospice Care.

Back in 2020, Barnfield College got involved and work is now underway to have the chosen design printed onto the life-size ceramic elephant.

Jude created a music inspired design ‘that reflects the amazing opportunities available in our town’.

She explains: “I’ve started painting the design onto the side of the elephant and I can’t wait for you all to see the design when it’s finished.

“My design showcases the amazing and diverse musical activities open to young people in Luton.

“Luton has an amazing music heritage and today has a vibrant and active youth music scene. From the Luton Girls’ choir through to award winning brass bands, music has played a big part in our history.”

The elephants will be ‘paraded’ across Luton later this year.

Tammy Nuthall, Deputy Principal at Barnfield College added: “We’re proud to be part of the Big Trunk Trail and sponsor part of the herd.

“The design was handpicked by our principal and it’s a great reflection of the creative opportunities available in the town.”
