Motor Vehicle students’ reach final of the Bodyshop Apprentice Awards 2019

on July 11, 2019

We are delighted to announce that two of our Motor Vehicle apprentices, Jacob Adams and Vladimir Iliev have made it to the finals of the Bodyshop Apprentice Awards competition 2019!

Throughout the competition they displayed their natural talent and have made the whole College extremely proud.

Vladimir is one of three finalists competing in the ‘Apprentice Paint Technician of the Year’ category in September. To reach the final, he had to complete four different tasks in 45 minutes, which included polishing, bumper scuff repair, painting and paint fault identification.

Vladimir said: “I found the tasks challenging, particularly given the time pressure I was under, however I had a great time and I’m overjoyed with my performance.”

On studying at Barnfield College, Vladimir added: “I’ve enjoyed my course so far and I love my tutors. They were able to give me the opportunity to learn about the trade and work on a wide variety of cars. Looking forward, I dream of opening my own garage one day!”

Jacob, who recently finished his Level 3 Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship, will be competing in the category ‘Apprentice Panel Technician of the Year’. To reach the final he passed through round one, an online test, where he came out as one of the top scoring students on the day. He also advanced through round two where he had to carry out a variety of tasks including welding and the repair, removal and refitting of body panels.

Next year Jacob is progressing onto a Level 2 Paint course at Barnfield. He’s very pleased with his experience so far, saying: “I’m very happy with the teaching at Barnfield College and I’ve really enjoyed my time here.

“I currently work repairing fleet vans but I’m hoping to get into classic car restoration work in the future as that’s what inspired me to get in to this trade.”

Motor Vehicle tutor, Sachit Shah, is delighted with both student’s progress, saying: “Vladimir has worked extremely hard to get to the later stages of his second competition of the year.

“This is Jacob’s first competition of the year but he’s show to everyone that he’s a very talented panel beater. I’m extremely impressed with both Vladimir and Jacob.”

We recently found out that Barnfield College will compete against three other apprenticeship providers in the final of the ‘Educator of the Year’ category. This is a massive achievement and is testament to the hard work put in by Sachit and the rest of our tutors.

We wish both students and the College the best of luck for the finals. We will keep you posted on the results!
