Barnfield College’s Motor Vehicle Department has recently been fortunate enough to receive an impressive gift from Luton Borough Council. The kind donation came in the larger-than-life form of a fully functioning, automatic DAF Truck, worth approximately £20,000.
The truck will be used as part of Barnfield College’s Heavy Vehicle courses, providing Barnfield’s Motor Vehicle students the unique chance to work on vehicles of this type. Barnfield is the only college in the region to have heavy vehicles available for students to train on, and so addressing the increasing popularity of these courses, due to a growing demand in HGV Technicians and opportunities with local employers.
Luton Borough Council representatives visited Barnfield’s Enterprise Way campus, which hosts a 14,100 ft2 Motor Vehicle Department, for the vehicle’s official handover on Thursday 1 March at 1pm. Luton Borough Council Work shop Supervisor Mick Stevenson bestowed the keys of the truck to Barnfield College Engineering Area Lead Marcel Fernandes, adding the 18 tonne donation to Barnfield College’s growing fleet.
