UAL Awarding Body’s Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma in Art & Design are characterised by experiential, experimental and integrated learning. Both qualifications focus on the application of practical skills and acknowledge the common principles and distinctive characteristics of different art and design disciplines. The Fashion course has been designed to develop your personal artistic identity through a range of ideas and techniques. This course will provide you with great in depth understanding of many different disciplines within a range of processes and materials used in the fashion world. The programme has been designed to allow students to develop their own skills within garment production and design through a range of teaching methods. These are combined in contemporary ways to create a new and evolving visual language. Drawing, painting, print, textiles and garment construction are examined within workshops and by looking at the work of contemporary fine artists and designers, with trips to exhibitions, within lectures and presentations and a programme of visiting speakers. There is also a trip abroad each year so that students have access to other cultural experiences. Our young designers will also taking part in organising - taking part and contributing to the College’s successful Fashion show, and entering external professional shows such as Luton Fashion Week. The Diploma allows learners to become independent in their explorations and thinking. All students are encouraged to consider their own ways of using materials and techniques (using their studio space, specialist rooms and the help of technicians). Projects encourage learners to think both creatively and theoretically. You will learn: · Pattern Cutting · Garment construction · Research skills · Design development skills · Mix Media Skills · Styling Skills · Professional Practice skills
