The UAL Extended Diploma in Art & Design has a strong belief in the benefits of a broad course of study covering all the skills, principles and processes common to both art and design practice. Students are introduced to each of our specialist study areas, with full access to professional standard facilities for drawing, painting, printmaking, 3D (wood, metals, plastics), ceramics, glass, textiles, photography, digital imaging, laser cutting and 3D printing. All practical study is supported by experienced staff, who are established Art & Design practitioners as well as qualified Teachers and Technicians. Theory and research activities, including guest speakers and visits to exhibitions, galleries, museums and other places of interest, provide inspiration for creative projects and help students to contextualise their work. This creates flexible Artists and Designers who are able to utilise their broad experience to enrich their eventual specialist practice. Learners work on projects covering a range of areas of study including: · Exploring materials, techniques and processes · Drawing from observation · Design and production for surface pattern, 3D, ceramics, graphic design · Generating Fine Art ideas · Contextual Studies
