Coronavirus guidance for current students

on March 27, 2020

Following the latest Government guidance, please be advised that Barnfield College is now closed. All teaching and learning has moved to online delivery.

Please be assured that the College have plans in place to minimise any disruptions to your studies and remain committed to supporting you to progress to your desired destination.

We are continuing to follow guidance set out by Government and we will keep you up to date with any further developments.

Student guide to studying remotely

Timetables will continue as normal and work will be set for you by your tutors to work on remotely.

On the days and times that you normally have a timetabled lesson, your tutor will e-mail you and your lesson will take place via Microsoft Teams or Google Classroom. Your tutor will then set you activities, tasks, assignments and deadlines.

Your tutor may also ask you to log on to Moodle to access resources. A guide to logging on to these systems is available here:

It is important to remember that while working remotely you will continue to develop the skills you need to progress to your next step. Read our guide here to help you get the most out of your remote learning.

If you are ill and unable to study remotely, please report your absence through the normal procedure by emailing your administrator and tutor.

LRC and StudyPlus

Any outstanding StudyPlus sessions booked for the coming weeks will go ahead at the planned time, but will be delivered remotely. Please log in to Microsoft Teams and await a video call invitation from a member of the LRC staff.

You can continue to book StudyPlus sessions to help with your assignments, revision or completing work please email LRChelp@barnfield.ac.uk.

Teaching and Learning Support

Attending college whilst remaining at home is new for all of our students. We understand that adapting to this new way of studying will take time.

If you would like to speak to someone regarding the new processes or if you are experiencing any difficulties with your course please contact our Quality team by e-mailing qualityteamluton@barnfield.ac.uk

Technical Support

If you are experiencing any technical difficulties accessing the services outlined above, please email helpdesk@barnfield.ac.uk and quote your student ID number.

Exams and Assessments

Following Government guidance around college closures and exam postponements, it is understandable for you to have questions about your next academic steps. The College remains committed to supporting you to progress to your desired destination.

As the Department for Education and awarding bodies work towards a solution, we will be keeping a close eye on updates – sharing these with you and continuing to support you to achieve the best possible outcome.

Ofqual, the exam regulator, will develop and set out a process that will provide a calculated grade to each student which reflects their performance as fairly as possible, and will work with the awarding bodies and exam boards to ensure this is consistently applied for all students. The awarding bodies and exam boards will be asking tutors, who know their students well, to submit their judgement about the grade that they believe the student would have received if assessments and exams had gone ahead.

We are awaiting further detail on how this affects courses with work placements and forms of practical and technical assessment. We will share this information with you as it is made available.

For those who wish to do so, the Government have also announced that there will also be an option to sit an exam during the next academic year.

If you have any questions then please feel free to email exams@barnfield.ac.uk. You can access the latest exams update from the Government here.

Students should still continue engaging with your studies, developing your skills and working towards the best grade possible. Tutors are available via email or Microsoft Teams.

For students looking for advice or guidance around their next steps, our admissions team and GAP team are available remotely via email.
