Barnfield College launched their Bullying Intervention Group (Barnfield B.I.G) in September 2016 and has now received an award from the National Bullying Intervention Group for excellence in challenging bullying.
Barnfield B.I.G was made up of students, staff and key figures from the local community to raise awareness around bullying. The group organised an anti-bullying awareness campaign which involved over 200 students pledging to stand up against bullies. The group also organised staff training, facilitated by You & Co – Victim Support provided staff a guidance how to identify and support victims and offenders of bullying. Students lead the way in reviewing the college’s Student Anti-Bullying policy, shaping how the college response and deals with bullying incidents.
The Barnfield College B.I.G developed a partnership with the Luton Victim Support team who runs a fortnightly surgery supporting students who have been victim of bullying/crime. Continuing this work, Barnfied B.I.G will be re-launching their peer mentoring scheme, training all student representatives to widen the support available to students.
