Barnfield Nursery

Introduction to department

Barnfield Nursery provides a high quality, caring, child centred learning environment, with learning experiences focused on the individual, which meets the needs of children, parents, staff, the college and community.

Offering care and education to children aged 2-5 years it is our intention to:

  • Provide a high quality child centred approach to learning. With each child supported to make active choices about their own learning.
  • Provide each child with opportunities to explore, consolidate and encounter challenges at stages appropriate to their development.
  • Promote the development of a positive self-image and self- confidence within the children.
  • Operate a key worker system that supports child, parents and family.
  • Recognise parents as the child’s first and most enduring educator and to work in partnership with parents to provide the best possible early years experiences for the children.
  • Encourage parents and carers to become as involved in their nursery as fully as they wish to be and in a manner that they are comfortable with.
  • Ensure nursery policies actively promote and support equal opportunities.
  • Ensure staff training and updating remains high profile. Making sure staff remain current in their thinking, knowledge and understanding of high quality child care. This ensures the nursery continues to develop while remaining open and receptive to new ideas and thinking.
  • To provide new and exciting parent information and support sessions, the contents of which is agreed with parents and offered in a format they find useful.

Settling In

content-nursery2Starting nursery can be daunting for both children and parents. At Barnfield Nursery we offer an Induction and settling in package that is tailored to your child’s individual needs. All parents will receive an Induction which provides you with all the information you need to know about the nursery. You will be introduced to your key worker and we will arrange some settling sessions prior to your child’s start date to ensure that the transition to nursery is as smooth as possible. We will provide you with a “Welcome to…” fact sheet about the room, which includes pictures of the staff – this can be used at home to help familiarise your child with the staff they will come in to contact with during their sessions.
