A Barnfield College student has won a Medallion For Excellence in the WorldSkills competition in Calgary, Canada.
Hugo Landau, a network student at the College, represented Britain in the hard-fought four-day ICT Network Support competition.
The 19-year-old achieved Britain’s highest score ever in this section and he received the highest point score of any of the British medallion winners.
Pete Birkett, Chief Executive of Barnfield College, said: “This is a great achievement for Barnfield College and Luton. It underlines the talent in our Computing and IT Department.
“Hugo is an exceptional network student and was ably supported by our staff at the competition.”
Three other members of Barnfield College attended the competition. John O’Neill, deputy head of Computing and IT, was training manager for the UK team. Kevin Large, a network tutor, was assistant team leader and Toby Henness, a foundation degree student, was an official observer.
More than 900 international competitors from more than 40 countries competed in 45 skill categories during the competition.
Barnfield College has been appointed the Eastern Region Ambassador for WorldSkills 2011 in London.
