Four students from Barnfield South Academy have won prestigious Gold and Silver Awards from the Prince's Trust.
The Academy in Cutenhoe Road set up a Prince's Trust xl club last year. Under the eagle eyes of Academy staff Tony Bowes and Jim Betts, the students ran an after-school DVD/cinema club, planned an allotment area for use by foundation students and wrote a profile about themselves and their lives.
The gold winners, Serdar Kilic and Shannon Theobald, led the allotment project and also set up a recycling scheme, donating cans and plastic bottles to a local disability charity. The two achieved the award in a single year, instead of the usual two years.
Craig Robbins and Yasser Majid received Silver Awards, taking part in the allotment and recycling projects as well as preparing a report on their work experience activities.
Another four Barnfield South students won Bronze Awards earlier in the year.
