Barnfield West has Talent

16 November 2009

Barnfield West Academy in Luton is waiting with bated breath for the results of Britain's Got Talent auditions at the end of the month.

Two talented young singers from the Academy will be appearing live before Simon Cowell and the other judges in London while a third student, a dancer, is waiting for a date.

Naomie Mpanu Mpanu, 12, will be auditioning on November 23 as part of a group, Independent Four. Part of a singing family, she admits to having butterflies in her stomach about the audition. "I love singing; a teacher asked me to sing in class the other day, it was great. Whatever happens, I want to continue singing and get more experience."

Natasha Chanda, 14, will audition as a solo act on November 20. Natasha, a regular singer at weddings, parties and at church in Luton, said: "I want to try the X Factor when I am 16. This is just the beginning for me." She is also nervous about the big day.

Kerrilee Bird, 15, who has been dancing since she was three, will be auditioning with a partner in a disco-free style act. "We practice three nights a week. I love dancing and have entered competitions and appeared in concerts."

Kerrilee is part of a dancing family, often performing in public with her mother and sister.

Creative cultural industries is a specialism at Barnfield West, which was the first school in Luton this summer to achieve 100 per cent 5 A*-C in the GCSE results.
