Barnfield Represents Britain at WorldSkills Calgary 2009

A four-strong team from Barnfield College is flying to Calgary, Canada this week to compete in the WorldSkills competition, hoping to bring gold back to Luton.

Hugo Landau, a network student at Barnfield, will represent Britain in the four-day ICT Network Support competition. John O’Neill, deputy head of Computing and IT, is the training manager for the UK team. Kevin Large, a network tutor, is assistant team leader and Toby Henness, a foundation degree student, is an official observer.

Pete Birkett, Chief Executive of Barnfield College, said: “It is a great honour for Barnfield that so many of our people are at WorldSkills in Canada. It also reflects the talent in our well-known Computing and IT Department. “Everybody at Barnfield is keeping their fingers crossed for Hugo. He is an exceptional network student.”

More than 900 international competitors from more than 40 countries will compete in 45 skill categories during the competition which will be attended by the Albertan Premier.  The biennial event is hailed as the pinnacle of global skills, trades and technology competition.

Barnfield College has been appointed the Eastern Region Ambassador for WorldSkills 2011 in London.
