Volunteer at Barnfield

The vtalentyear programme in Barnfield College is offering 15 full-time volunteer places to young people aged 16-25 in and around the Luton and Bedfordshire area. If accepted you will be offered a position in a particular area of the college, these could include: The Studio School, Engineering, Communications & Marketing and many more.  All of the placements offer specialist experience that, as a volunteer, will be both rewarding and enjoyable.

 What's in it for you?

Volunteering can be very challenging and ultimately very rewarding. Volunteers will gain practical skills, life skills, and benefit from valuable training while in the field of volunteering work. Gaining experience in Barnfield can really improve a volunteer's chance when applying for a course or job.

Barnfield College is working in partnership with "V" to provide opportunities for young people interested in exploring a variety of career paths. By offering core training, relevant qualifications and chances to experience specialist areas of working with young people, Barnfield College aims to give volunteers the chance to excel personally while working with and helping others. Upon completion of the programme you will gain a level 2 qualification.

How much commitment?

You will have to:

  • Commit 30 hours a week for 44 weeks
  • Start in September and finish in July
  • Commit a minimum of 3 hours a week to gaining a level 2 qualification.

 What help will you receive?

  • Volunteers will receive group and one-to-one support from the Programme Co-ordinator.
  • Volunteers and the Programme Co-ordinator will regularly meet to make sure that the placement is developing you to the best of your ability.
  • To help you attend your placement you will receive a weekly allowance of up to £100 to cover travel and subsistence costs.

 What do we expect from you?

As a volunteer you will be expected to:

  • Complete a CRB check
  • Attend all induction and training sessions
  • Act as professionals in volunteering placements
  • Complete all written requirements as agreed with the Programme Co-ordinator
  • Meet all elements of the volunteer job description
