Our Higher Education qualifications explained

Higher National Certificates (HNC) and Higher National Diplomas (HND) are vocational higher education qualifications validated by Pearson. They are designed to give you the skills and knowledge you’ll need for a particular career, and are highly valued by employers both in the UK and overseas. They can also count towards membership of professional bodies and other employer organisations.

To study a HNC, you’ll need:

Approved Level 3 qualification with associated Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Accreditation of Prior and Experiential Learning (APEL). Grade 4 or C in GCSE English or L2 FS in English

To study a HND, you’ll need:

Level 4 qualification with associated Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Accreditation of Prior and Experiential Learning (APEL). Grade 4 or C in GCSE English.

Foundation Degrees

Foundations are work-related degrees, designed with the help of employers to be relevant to particular industries. They are equivalent to the first two years of a Bachelor’s degree, and offer the option to ‘top-up’ on completion at our partner university, the University of Bedfordshire, or by applying to another, participating university.

To study a Foundation Degree, you’ll need:

Level 4 qualification with associated Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Accreditation of Prior and Experiential Learning (APEL). Grade 4 or C in GCSE English.
