What is the HNC/D Bursary?

All first year HNC and HND students starting in academic year 2017/18 (both September/October 2017 and January 2018 starts) may be eligible for a bursary to help support their studies.

We are pleased to offer a bursary for eligible students to assist with the cost of field trips, travel, resources and key equipment such as a laptop. A bursary isn’t like a loan – you don’t have to pay it back!

For full-time students, the bursary will be £500. Part-time HNC/D students, will receive an amount depending on the length of the course.

What is the eligibility criteria for the HNC/D Bursary?

To be eligible, you must:

  • enrol on a HNC/D programme at Barnfield College in academic year 2017-18 (September/October 2017 and January 2018 starts)
  • pay the course fee in full or provide proof of a student loan being approved
  • be able to demonstrate a commitment to the course by completing your work and demonstrating full attendance and punctuality during the first 6 weeks of the course (from the day you start)

How do I apply for the HNC/D Bursary?

In order to apply, you need to fill out an application form, which can be obtained from the Student Services team. The form must be filled out in full and returned to your tutor who will supply the attendance figures. You must apply by 29 November 2017 if you enrolled in September/October 2017, and by 16 February 2018 for January 2018 starts.

What happens next?

Your application will be assessed and we will then write to you to advise you what support you are entitled to and pay the bursary directly into your bank account. If your application is not successful, we will write to you to notify you of this.

Please note that these are limited funds. The College reserves the right to reject any bursary application.

Can I appeal against the College’s Bursary decision?

You do have the right to appeal. If you wish to appeal, please contact the Student Services team.
