Teacher Education

Barnfield Teacher Education programmes are designed to help you to take advantage of a career in teaching. As a Grade 1 department we pride ourselves in delivering quality teaching and learning in an environment that is friendly and supportive and attuned to meet individuals' needs.

Whether you are interested in becoming a teacher, or are already teaching and need to complete the necessary qualifications, then Barnfield has something for you. The Certificate in Education is the professional qualification for those wishing to teach in further education colleges, adult education, higher education and private training settings outside the school sector. At Barnfield we have been training people to work in these areas for over 20 years.

All of our programmes - PTLLS, CTLLS and Cert Ed/PGCE (incorporating DTLLS) are endorsed by Standards Verification UK on behalf of Lifelong Learning UK and ultimately lead to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status. Our courses are accredited though the University of Bedfordshire and study is on a part time basis.

We aim to produce teachers who are flexible and innovative, who can work confidently in teams and who have a deep interest in the academic and pastoral well-being of their learners.

Progression and employment

Graduate teachers from Barnfield have gone on to achieve many higher qualifications - including Honours and Masters Degrees - and now work in some of the country's most successful further and higher education establishments

The Numbers

We currently have 100 students on programme this year. Success rates for the Certificate in Education last year was 94%. The success rates for our PTLLS courses was 100%.

Location

Our teacher training programmes are delivered at our York Street Campus in Luton.
