Child, Health & Social Care

The Child Health & Social Care Department at Barnfield is one of the best in the country attracting Learners from all over the region and even internationally.

We are a vibrant team who have a lot of fun. We deliver a range of contemporary courses to meet a dynamic community and public health agenda.

The courses are designed to promote inter-professional learning in response to key health and social care policy areas such as: Health & Social Care, Public Services, Child Care, Access, NVQ Health & Social Care, NVQ Child Care, Dental, Mental Health, Counselling

Through the vigour and determination of individual team members , we have been successful in gaining Awards in partnership working innovative teaching and learning excellence in teaching voluntary working in the local community.

Progression and Employment

Learners from this department have gone on to achieve many higher qualifications - including Foundation and Honours Degrees as well as jobs within some of the region's top employers:

Public Services learners have gained employment in Police and Fire Services within Beds, Herts, Bucks and the Greater London area. One third of our 16-19 learners progress to Higher Education and Employers within the early years field are engaged in supporting the delivery within the Child Care courses.

Level 3 Child Care learners gain a work-ready qualification in safeguarding children in collaboration with the Luton Safeguarding Children's Board.

The Numbers

The department currently has over 1300 learners and on average a full-time class will have 20 learners.

Location

Based at Barnfield's New Bedford Road C campus you will have access to all of the College's excellent facilities including restaurant, coffee shop and crèche.
