This qualification will prepare you for further study at Level 2 or you can enter employment or apprenticeship at Junior level.
Additional Information
All students will be required to purchase a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kit and safety boots. The PPE kit will need to be purchased via the College for £40. Safety boots cost approximately £25 and can be purchased externally or via the College.
This course will introduce you to a wide range of coatings and basic wallcoverings used in the industry. The aim of this course is to provide you with the fundamental underpinning knowledge and practical skills of painting and decorating. Within the study programme you will study English and maths to reach the appropriate level and engage in 20 hours work experience. The course consists of 8 units, which are split into knowledge and practical delivery. Practically, you will participate in simulated activities, all designed to develop hand skills and an eye for detail. This is assessed as you progress through your qualification. Your knowledge is assessed on completion of individual units by online assessment. You will learn:
How to prepare different surfaces ready to apply paint, wallpaper and decorative effects
How to use painting and decorating tools and equipment
How to apply different paints by brush and roller to different surfaces
How to use different types of access equipment
How to hang different types of wallpaper
How to apply decorative effects
